Who We Are

Hello from Martijn, Johanna, Robin, and Mikko. We are the four ‘voices’ of Eye of Melian. We are an independent music project hailing from the Netherlands and Finland. For any who are wondering where they’ve heard the name Melian before, you may recognize her as J.R.R. Tolkien’s ancient power who taught the nightingales to sing in the world before Middle Earth was fully created. Yes, you’re right: we are a clan of epic fantasy nerds and exceedingly proud of it. We create music which unfolds epic and elegant storyscapes in the listener’s mind because we are lovers of realms beyond our own. And we’re guessing, if you’re here, you are too. We would like to ask for your help to fund the release of our debut album Legends of Light. And we truly hope that the music will shine a comforting and healing light during these dark times.

OUR GOAL

Our goal is to collect € 25,000 by April 17th to reach our release goal while maintaining the epic quality of our music, avoiding debt, and creating something for you that is truly world-breaking (in the best way!).

A lot of costs go into making and releasing an album. As you know, we’ve already completed our album and, to have done so, we paid a large amount out of our own pockets, and we also have many invoices waiting patiently to be paid. Normally, crowdfunding is done before an album is created and produced, but since this is our very first album, we decided to do it the other way around, because who wants to support something they’ve never heard before?

Hundreds of hours of hard work have been put in by multiple people to make an album of this quality. To name just a few of our costs - compensating our remarkable guest and session musicians, artwork and design for all of our products, professional services of recording and mastering etc., the production of physical goods such as CDs, vinyls and all the other magical merchandise, video production, and all the administrative work. As you can probably imagine these things can add up very quickly. And none of that even includes the enormous amount of time spent writing the music and lyrics, recording the vocals, creating the orchestrations, and all the other blood, and literal sweat and tears that went into creating Legends of Light.

Why Crowdfunding

Crowdfunding offers numerous benefits to independent music artists such as ourselves. We don’t have to pay the middleman of a record label, which means we have total control over our own music and methods, and yet we can still raise the funds needed with the help of some very important people…you guys! Another unique and special opportunity made possible by crowdfunding is for fans to be a huge part of the album release process. For all of you who have already come along side us with your amazing support and enthusiasm with the release of our singles so far, this is just another stop on the journey. And we are incredibly thankful you are onboard with us!  Lastly, crowdfunding also provides the ability for us to offer fun, personal and unique perks that we couldn’t offer otherwise. So in short, by releasing the album in this way there are numerous advantages for the fans, and for us, so that we can release an album we are immensely proud of.

Why we Use our Merchstore for Crowdfunding

We chose to use our Merchstore for our pre-order/crowdfunding platform partially because of the crucial bonus that you will receive your rewards even if we don’t reach our goal entirely (but we really hope that we do!). Additionally, we don’t have to pay a third party crowdfunding platform a percentage out of every purchase simply for hosting the campaign. A small percentage of your purchases will of course go to our wonderful Merchstore family for all the hard work they continue to do with shipping everything out to you guys. And they certainly deserve it!

Album Release Date

Our debut album Legends of Light will be released this year on the Summer Solstice (June 21st) – the day when light lingers longest in the sky. As this album found its form, we saw it unintentionally focusing on the many enchanting forms of light - both literal and symbolic - the crystalline light of the moon and stars, the rising sun answering the call of dawn, a guiding light of hope across the stormy seas, and even the regret of light lost. The songs Wings of the Dawn and Doorway of Night are essentially 'legends' of the two greatest orbs of light: the sun’s rising and the moon’s birth. 
With the sun’s light at its greatest height on June 21st, what better time to release our very own Legends of Light?

Online Release Party

Come hang out with us live at our online album Release Party! You automatically will receive one ticket for admission if you make a purchase from this campaign. During the party we will be chatting about the album, doing a Q & A of questions you guys ask*, as well as some other exciting things!  You will receive an email with information about the date and all the details when the time gets closer.

*You can email us your questions for the Q & A at fellowship@eyeofmelian.com or you can send them to us via our Facebook Messenger or Instagram Direct Messaging. However you choose to send us your questions, please be sure to state clearly that the question is for the Q & A. We will do our best to answer all the questions at the Release Party depending on how many we receive. :)  We will also try to take some live questions as well!
